Moreover, transporting such goods from one place to another can be very dangerous for the environment as well as human beings because they may react with some other materials on their way leading to a mishap. There are several organizations which are working towards ensuring safety of nature and mankind from these hazardous materials. Two of them are IATA and DOT. They are international organizations which are helpful in safe transportation of dangerous goods through airways and roadways respectively.

IATA stands for International Air Transport Association. It is responsible for carrying hazardous materials via airways. Change Doesn’t Have to Be a Dirty Word

The fact that everybody knows there needs to be change somehow doesn’t make it any easier to accept. Sometimes it’s not about the logic its the emotion that influences us. As a manger you have probably found yourself explaining all the reasons that change is needed to employees who have simply looked at you and said – no, there must be another way.

Dealing with emotions, I believe, is one of the reasons leaders see change as a dirty word. Why? Because it can be hard to deal with. Many different emotions and people go through them at different stages. It would be easier if everyone was angry at the same time or all in denial etc., wouldn’t it? Maybe. Maybe not.

What makes matters worse is that the more change there is, the more employees see that the last change was unsuccessful (compared to effort and impact) and the more constant it is, the more emotion there is likely to be.

When this happens leaders either just brace themselves and push through the change as quickly as possible accepting people wont be happy and believing it’s in their best interest. Or they could learn from what worked and didn’t before and build that into their plan for the next change.

Dealing with emotions can be draining and time-consuming. Being prepared to deal with it can soften the impact and move people through to acceptance much faster. It is a necessary part of successful change.

So what can you do? First of all accept that there will be emotion and people will be in different parts of the cycle (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance – Kubler-Ross Model). In fact some people might get stuck in one part of the cycle permanently.

Understandably you as the leader or business owner need people to keep moving forward and at the very least keep delivering current commitments. At the same time though you need to demonstrate empathy for what they are going through.

Continue to communicate, make sure you have feedback mechanisms in place, if necessary have counseling services available for employees to use.

Strengths Profiles Can Enhance Your Job Search

A lot of people are stuck in their job search today. If you find yourself there, rest assured you’re not alone. Most successful job searches consist of at least 4 steps including strengths assessment, industry research and targeting, resume building and interviewing. A good psychometric profile can help with each of these steps, even if it just helps you discover where your biggest challenge is and get some help.

There are a number of terrific strengths profiles available today. The DISC Profile may be the most used strengths indicator by businesses world-wide. Close behind, might be Myers-Briggs and Strengths-finder, which was developed by the Gallup Organization a little over a decade ago. I like Stand Out, a new instrument developed by the Marcus Buckingham Company as well. Values Index is another that may add some helpful insight. Each of these instruments can be very useful.

The first way a profile or strengths indicator may help is in identifying the best potential job match. Even if you’re at the place of being willing to take a job doing anything, you’ll be better off in the long run if you have a clear idea what your natural talents and non-talents are and how they match up with specific positions. While not fool proof, most of the mentioned profiles can be useful when debriefed with a skilled job coach that is familiar with the specific instrument.

For example, sales work is potentially a good match for those scoring high in the “I” dimension on DISC. High “Extraversion” on Myers-Briggs, “Woo” on Strengthsfinder and “Influencer” on Stand Out might point in a similar direction. A high score on the “Economic” dimension in the Values Index might be a natural fit for commissioned sales work where there is no ceiling on income.

Can you be successful in sales without these attributes or traits? Perhaps, but sales usually involves meeting a lot of new people. If you find this activity draining or even terrifying, it might become a barrier to both job success and satisfaction.

How to Improve Your Net Promoter Score

Net Promoter is used to gauge your company’s performance by determining the level of satisfaction customers have with your company. This is achieved by simply asking customers how likely they are to recommend your company to a friend or colleague, using a scale of 0 to 10. By asking this question, you get a very clear understanding of what percentage of your customers are loyal.

Every customer who provides a 9 or 10 ranking is classified as a promoter. Promoters are loyal customers who keep buying and refer others without hesitation. Customers who provide a 7 or 8 ranking are classified as passive. Passives are satisfied but indifferent customers who are in danger of moving their business elsewhere. Customers who provide a ranking of 6 or below are classified as detractors. Detractors are unhappy customers who are unlikely to do further business with your company and may use word-of-mouth to let others know of their bad experience.

To calculate your company’s Net Promoter Score, take the percentage of customers who are promoters and subtract the percentage who are detractors. Although Net Promoter Scores vary by industry, a satisfactory score would be anything above 50%, but never settle. Measuring and tracking your Net Promoter Score is not the end of your work. You must still drive improvements in customer loyalty and act on customer feedback.

Regardless of the level of your score, there will always be room for improvement. As a result, consider the following steps when looking to maximize your Net Promoter Score.

Hire and train with focus on customer needs
Make it a strategic imperative to ensure each new hire is customer-focused and that employees spend 5 to 10 percent of their time each week in training that will help develop their skills and understanding of what customers expect. Focus on ensuring employees understand how important it is for everyone to know the business of your customers and how your products and services can help them succeed.

Inner Peace – Steps Towards Inner Peace

We have a challenging world in which we live, and we need inner peace now more than ever. This is not an easy task but it is something you can find if you follow a few simple to understand but difficult to enact steps to achieve inner peace. Inner peace begins with love, followed by forgiveness and learning to give. Finally you have to learn to smile a lot and learn to meditate, to quiet your mind down. If you can learn to do these things you can learn to have a life of inner peace.

Love

If you want a life of inner peace you must begin by learning to love. This is the power to open your heart to feeling and being willing to open yourself up to being hurt occasionally. Opening your heart will bring you the highest joys and the deepest hurts but it is only when you can truly authentically experience both of these that you will be on the way towards inner peace. Love is the first step, love is how you begin, is it at the center of inner peace and everything else.

Forgive

Next after love comes forgiveness. Forgiveness is the second step to gaining inner peace. Now forgiveness here has two parts. You need to learn to be able to forgive others if they hurt you. The more you can forgive the hurt you get from others the more inner peace you will have. The more important part of forgiveness for inner peace is learning to be able to forgive yourself. You must learn to forgive yourself for all of the things you have done wrong, etc. We cause pain to ourselves more than we ever get pain from others, and we must be willing to forgive ourselves for the pain we have caused.

Give

The next step to inner peace is getting out of ourselves and learning to give to others instead. When you can move the focus away from you, your needs, your perceived troubles and tribulations and towards the needs and trials of others you will begin to find inner peace. Inner peace comes from being in service to others. The more you give the more you receive in inner peace.

What Type of Leader Are You? 4 Different Styles of Leadership

In my work as a consultant I have discovered that there are four different styles of leaders. There is the visionary leader, there is the directing leader, there is the empathetic leader and there is the process leader. You might be asking how do you recognize yours and how do you build on it?

First let’s look at the differences between each of those styles.

• Visionary leader. Your main strength is the ability to see way down the road. You are able to see what is coming before anyone else can. You inspire others through what is possible. You excite others to the mission to get to the vision. You actually are contagious with your energy.

A great example of a visionary leader would be Steve Jobs. Steve had a great way of being able to say, “This is where we are going. I see that the future is technology that is simplified for all.” That was his vision and everything that was built behind him was to contribute to the vision.

• If you are a directing leader you are someone who is very focused. You are very clear on what needs to be done in order to get to where the vision is being guided.

So a directing leader great example might be someone like Donald Trump. Donald Trump is very directing, some would argue autocratic. With his style of leadership he is able to say, “This is where we are going. This is what needs to be done to get there,” and he is very specific and direct about how to get there. A directing leader is very talented at getting people to execute, getting people to get things done. If that is your style of leadership you are able to look at somebody else’s vision perhaps. Maybe you don’t have both of the skills of visionary and directing but if you are working in tandem with someone who has vision you are able to then articulate the pieces that need to be done in order to get towards achieving the vision.

3 Ways To Motivate Employees With Fewer and Fewer Resources

Jean is a thirty something CEO of a multi million dollar uniform company and she recognizes the importance of motivating her employees but also faces the reality of having fewer resources. Her employees range in age from early twenties to late fifties and she realizes that the ‘one size fits all’ approach to motivating people is no longer relevant.

Jean turned to her consultant to brainstorm ideas on how to motivate her team. Together they came up with a list of things that had motivated each of her team leaders in the past. Bob 48 years old was motivated when Jean took him for breakfast and gave him a big picture vision of the company and his role in it. Sally 29 years old was motivated when Jean recognized the amount of work Sally had done on a crucial project and gave her half a day off to go skiing with friends. Tina 35 was motivated when Jean provided tickets to the city zoo for Tina and her family.

Jean realized as she reviewed the activities that motivated her team she saw that when she personally took the time to talk to each of her team members and individually, understand what was going on in their lives and reward them based on their individual circumstances performance and results went up significantly.

What she also realized was that when she wasn’t consistent with recognition as a focus the team would lose steam and become demotivated. The next step for Jean was to increase the coaching skills of her leaders so that they made recognition and reward a consistent focus. She hired her consultant to support her on this focus as she knew that if she didn’t it would not remain a priority.

What did Jean learn about motivating employees with fewer resources?

#1- Motivation of employees needs to be a top priority (it is usually at the bottom of priorities below strategy, execution and meetings)

God Is The Perfection of All Things Seen And Unseen

For me, God is life. He is the perfection of all things great, both seen and unseen. God gives me hope and inspiration, no matter how dire some circumstances appear to be. When I put my FULL faith in His existence, my own life feels less burdensome and much lighter. I believe that is because he is infusing His Light into my soul; into my heart and mind. With my faith in God, the invincibility I feel to successfully overcome all of my hardships is greatly eased, as I know that there is a “friend” who is always listening to my words and worries.

I can see Him in the sunshine and the raindrops that replenish our needs on earth. I see Him in the beauty of the mountains and the hustle and bustle that is felt in urban environments. The blend of colors in flowers in fields or in planters at a front door, plus puppies and kittens, birds and wild animals all have God’s imprint on them. The sounds of babies giggling and crickets echoing through the night leave no doubt why they make so many of us happy. The pleasure and pure joy that is felt in my heart from those simple things make me grateful to the Creator’s presence.

God is the brightness that makes me feel that every time I think I have taken the last step to resolve a problem, that somehow giving up seems to be cast aside. He enables me to try again, despite my own insecurities, frustrations and physical, mental and emotional pains. When I see Him in my mind’s eye, a radiant light glistens with warmth and love. It is as though I am being told, “I will walk with you as you improve and overcome your challenges.” It is during those moments that my feelings of reassurance are elevated and the sense that an angel is hugging me comes through clearly.

Some things never change – Wooden letters Add Class

Wood still looks very nice when it was carved and placed in an attractive display, whether a sign, letters, or even an engraved photo frame. Using wooden letters add a touch to your message, if you need to inform customers of your company name or if you want to leave an impressive set of initials near your mailbox, or adding to decoration and sophistication of the look of your home.

Wood is a natural fiber, with gorgeous wood grains, variations and shades of color. There are many types of wood, which add luster and resonance of everything you want to view. It gives a look and feeling of solidity, of nostalgia, something true on earth, alluding to the integrity and reliability. All are excellent subliminal messages to your customers, friends and acquaintances to receive.

There are all types of wooden letters to choose from. They can be flat or convex. They can be printed form or in block style cursive handwriting style. Even fancy modern scripts are available, so consider all your options. Birch wood or alder wood can be used, as well as synthetic HDU (high density urethane) which, if painted, you can never tell the difference between it and the wood! With a little investigation and computer “window shopping” or browsing the web, you can come to the conclusion that the style and material the most sense for you and your needs. This is a individual decision that only you can do for you.

Once you decide what is most pleasing to your senses, you should ask yourself the question: Where can I view the wooden letters? Well, the wooden letters can be placed almost anywhere that the human eye can not see them. They are fine when installed on the outside, and better if they are under a roof edge guard or any other area partially protected. They are also quite suitable for display inside your home, as in the kitchen, dining room, bedroom, or day care for example.
